Village and urban development, strengthening of town centres
An attractive and lively town centre strengthens the identity of a community, ensures local supply and creates a quality of stay for citizens and businesses. But how do you implement the right measures?
Actively shaping the future of the municipality
In order to strengthen and further develop the town centre, holistic solutions are needed that take all areas into account and strengthen social identity and togetherness. The SIR therefore offers information and support in:
- Actively using vacant properties & preserving the townscape – We help to revitalise existing buildings and areas in a sensible way.
- Rethinking traffic & mobility – Well thought-out concepts for more safety, less noise and attractive routes for pedestrians and cyclists.
- Strengthening basic services & business location – Together with the municipality, we develop solutions for a vibrant town centre.
- Involving citizens & creating acceptance – We moderate participation processes in order to make sustainable decisions.
- Making optimum use of funding – We provide information on suitable financing models and funding programmes.

Successful town centre projects in Salzburg municipalities
Many municipalities have already successfully implemented measures to strengthen town centres:
Golling an der Salzach - ISEK with citizen participation
Golling is focusing on a comprehensive strengthening of the town centre with an integrated development concept (ISEK). Vacant properties were recorded, citizens actively involved and specific measures developed.
Werfen - securing the local supply
Thanks to a well thought-out location concept, a central shopping facility has been secured in Werfen – an important measure for the revitalisation of the town centre.
Seekirchen - Historic building with a new use
In Seekirchen, a vacant inn was revitalised and converted into a modern event centre with restaurants.
Bergheim - More quality of stay through a meeting zone
The traffic-calmed design of the centre of Bergheim has improved safety for pedestrians and made the town centre more attractive.
